Dominica Carnival .... March 3 - 4 2003 In a climate of economic uncertainty and talk of violence there were many questions surrounding the success of Dominica's Carnival 2003. The theme for this year's carnival was timely and relevant. "Peace Love & Unity for Mas Domnik 2003." There were very few major incidents of violence thanks to the vigilance of the Dominica Police Force. This vigilance however led to numerous arrests, mostly for petty offences . All told, approximately 50 people were arrested. Carnival celebrations though were full of color and vibrancy ... In Portsmouth especially, where there were no pre jump up shows, doubts about a street jump up persisted. However, thanks to the Seramix Band, Kubuli Beer , DJ Power (Glenroy Jno Baptiste) , The Possiecans Band, the efforts of the Parliamentary Rep, And 6, Pulse Electronics Repair & Record Shop and the hospitable people of the north & north east, we were treated to two days of true Dominican Carnival. Special mention to the stalwarts who help to maintain the traditional mas our carnival as they were out in full force with the ole mas costumes especially on tuesday afternoon.
